April 26, 2018 — Urban Freight Lab Research Assistant Gabriela Giron (Civil & Environmental Engineering MS '18, Ph.D. student, and Fulbright Scholar) has been named to the Urban Freight Transportation Committee (AT025) of the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's Transportation Research Board (TRB).

March 20, 2018 — Congratulations to Urban Freight Lab Research Assistant and Ph.D. student Jose Machado for receiving the 2017 Concord Engineering - Jason Holdridge Term Graduate Student Support scholarship. Jose and other College of Engineering scholarship recipients were recognized at the 2017 Scholar-Donor Recognition Luncheon on November 14, 2017.

March 20, 2018 — Professor Anne Goodchild was named the 2017 Person of the Year by The Transportation Club of Seattle. The annual award recognizes “an individual who has made extraordinary efforts, impact and contributions to the local transportation field and community.” A CEE faculty member since 2005, Goodchild is the founding director of the Supply Chain Transportation and Logistics (SCTL) Center and serves as academic director for the associated master’s degree program.

March 26, 2018 — The Urban Freight Lab at the Supply Chain Transportation and Logistics Center is currently partnering with the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to pilot test a common-carrier smart locker system in the Seattle Municipal Tower from March 23 through April 13.

September 13, 2017 — Technology was the theme of the day for the Urban Freight Lab on September 12. At the very first Tech Day hosted by the SCTL Center, UFL members and venture capital leaders spent the afternoon listening to presentations and discussing how three very different emerging technologies could be applied to the Lab’s two priority problems. Conversations continued at the Innovative Freight Technologies Executive Forum dinner immediately following Tech Day.

July 17, 2017 —  With over half of the world’s population concentrated in cities, mobility has become increasingly more complicated due to rising gridlock, pollution, and ineffective mass transit plaguing people across the world. After identifying these problems, Ford Motor Company started to explore opportunities, experiments, and emerging solutions that will shape how the ‘City of Tomorrow’ could potentially address these growing issues.

March 3, 2017 — New Urban Freight Lab paper "Are Cities’ Delivery Spaces in the Right Places? Mapping Truck Load/Unload Locations" authored has been accepted for presentation at the City Logistics Conference in Thailand on June 14-16, 2017. Barb Ivanov, SCTL Center chief operatung officer, will present part of the groundbreaking research the Urban Freight Lab is doing with the Seattle Department of Transportation to address the lack of space for trucks to deliver goods in urban centers.

February 15, 2017 — The Urban Freight Lab was announced as a finalist for the 2017 Sustainability Leadership Award for Resilience: Effective Action Addressing Climate Change Vulnerability by Sustainable Seattle. Started in the early ’90s, the Sustainability Leadership Awards recognize the accomplishments of individuals, organizations, and businesses that are helping make the Puget Sound region more sustainable, resilient, and equitable.
