Urban Freight Lab Selected for National Initiative to Advance Clean, Equitable Last-Mile Delivery

The Urban Freight Lab is proud to be named one of 25 winners of the Communities Taking Charge Accelerator, a national initiative led by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Joint Office of Energy and Transportation.

Our project focuses on how electrifying shared parking lots and deploying logistics microhubs can support more sustainable, efficient, and equitable last-mile delivery systems in cities. By reimagining the use of off-street parking and integrating zero-emissions delivery technologies, we aim to reduce emissions from urban freight, optimize space usage, and create workforce opportunities that support cleaner transportation solutions.

In collaboration with LAZ Parking, National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Net Zero Logistics, and Penn State University, this work will support the electrification of commercial delivery fleets, increase efficiency and equity in last-mile delivery, expand access to low-emissions delivery in communities, and reimagine underutilized parking assets as clean logistics infrastructure.

UFL looks forward to being part of the Taking Charge Accelerator and contributing to a scalable, connected electric transportation ecosystem that supports national goals for climate resilience, economic opportunity, and environmental justice.
