April 26, 2018 — Urban Freight Lab Research Assistant Gabriela Giron (Civil & Environmental Engineering MS ’18, Ph.D. student, and Fulbright Scholar) has been named to the Urban Freight Transportation Committee (AT025) of the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine‘s Transportation Research Board (TRB).
The Urban Freight Transportation Committee is concerned with the study and research of urban freight transportation topics and issues, including urban transportation systems, including urban transportation system demand and economic relationships, right-of-way issues, pick-up and delivery needs, terminal transportation needs, institutional challenges, and new technology, with an emphasis on providing support to practitioners.
TRB is a division of the National Research Council of the United States, which serves as an independent adviser to the President, Congress, and federal and state agencies on scientific and technical transportation issues of national importance to improve government decision making and public policy, increase public understanding, and promote the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge in matters involving science, engineering, technology, and health. In an objective and interdisciplinary setting, TRB facilitates the sharing of information on transportation practice and policy by researchers and practitioners; stimulates research and offers research management services that promote technical excellence; provides expert advice on transportation policy and programs; and disseminates research results broadly and encourages their implementation.
At SCTL, Gabriela is working on three projects: Final 50 Feet of the Urban Goods Delivery System, Logistics Sprawl, and the Last 800 Feet of the Pickup/Delivery Operation.
Gabriela joins three SCTL colleagues also serving on TRB: Prof. Anne Goodchild, Prof. Ed McCormack, and Barbara Ivanov.
